FACING THE FIRE HYDRANT

Real Estate

A well-spoken colleague, Wanda, said it best "it's like standing in front of the fire hydrant being sprayed with all of this information!" It is!! It’s like a full blast spray of water shooting you in the face at a hundred miles per hour when receiving all of this information that must be implemented, orderly, and professional from the start. Like many people, I underestimated the work being done on the real estate agent's end of things. I remember thinking that the commission was a bit high for someone who was posting pictures on the Internet for me, possibly making a few phone calls, had a little knowledge in the field, and stuck a sign in the front yard! BOY was I uneducated!!!  To put it mildly, there are so many things one must know and be able to professionally deliver, that it is unfathomable. We are talking about the largest investment that most people will ever make in their lifetime. We have to be the liaison in the transaction whether it means being a therapist, consultant, confidant, realtor professional (that’s a given through the entire transaction obviously), or even helping with maintenance of the property. Of the obligations that are related to the job are: writing up contracts, checking on loan approvals,  writing contingencies and addendum's, counter offers, home inspections, WDO inspection, surveys, valuation certificate, pre-qualification's, bank approvals, appraisal, title company follow-ups,  lender dealings, maintenance repairs, showings,  buyers informational sheets, walk-troughs, getting legal support, insurance, property taxes, transfers and utilities, open houses, FSBO's, expires, new listings, marketing homes, marketing yourself, and these are just to name a few! Is your head spinning yet? It baffles me how people are willing to sell or buy their largest investment without a professional on either side. Homes on average sell quite a bit more (different calculations depending on what area you are from and what month it is, so I won't put them here) when selling with an agent rather than on your own; when I say a bit more, I mean more than enough to cover the expenses of hiring a listing agent. That's not even mentioning all of the times you have to put your own self out to show your properties, speak with potential buyers, repair your home, advertising your home, and educating yourself on all required forms, contracts, etc.--it doesn't balance out. I joined a team that fully supports and believes in me – my broker has over 30 years of experience in this business alone, and I am very happy to call her my boss.  I think the key is finding a great team to answer those questions that you don't know, have your back if ever you need it, answers their phone at all hours of the night just to help you with questions or contracts, and makes your day just by being positive every time you walk into the door to the office. To have the desire and the will to do great things, and to be successful in all that you do is infectious when you are around like-minded people! I was not complaining earlier about all of the things required of us, but more boasting about all that is required and how much an educated, professional agent knows and what they can do for you! I apologize to anyone who has ever helped me in the past with real estate because I was one of those people that didn't understand! Kudos to all agents for the work that has been done to reach your desired levels of success; it was my friends who inspired me to get into this business and who continue to inspire me with the accomplishments that they make each day, and I hope to be that same person for others who haven't yet found their career path. I entered this business not knowing what it would become, but I will be leaving it (if ever I do) knowing that it was the right choice for me at this moment and that I truly love(d) what I am/was doing! So many people have contacted me asking if I thought that they could do it because they heard it was really difficult. Anything worth having in life has to be somewhat difficult for everyone would be able to do it/have it, but that said, you should always chase a dream or go after something that you want so that you never have to live with "what if's!" Always try, don't be afraid to fail, don't take being turned down personally, and always hold your head high and know your true value! Real estate brings with it these amazing attributes (at least for me) and encourages me to be the most amazing person that I can each day. Being a people person, I love to help others, and helping people invest in their futures has always been a pleasure for me; now I get to do that every day, and make money at it. I have a lot to bring to the table and I am not complacent! I am eager to learn and that is why you should list with me while knowing that you are back by one vigilant, hardheaded, strong, resilient, educated, honest, worthy, and mindful agent who strive for perfection and ease for her clients during real estate transactions.
